Eeeep! It’s June!

Donate Now

I cannot believe it’s June. While many people have Institute beginning in a few days, I still have a good 3 weeks. But the fact that it is June makes everything feel so real, and I’m pretty excited/scared.
I forgot to mention that I got my placement the night before I left for London. I’ll be teaching advanced high school math. I’m a little scared that my kids are going to know math better than I do (I mean, those CSETs were not easy). I guess that just means I’m going to have to be very on top of…

Back again…

So it seems this year, whenever I feel so completely stressed out, I miraculously end up in the UK. This appears to be no exception. What can I say? The fee to change the ticket was pretty minimal, and I really had nothing left to do in Charlottesville. Only problem: I made the decision to…

About one month to go…

Induction starts June 21st, my 23rd birthday. Talk about new beginnings! I’m getting increasingly nervous…my mood fluctuates from super excited to scared and apprehensive depending on the day. But I’m getting ahead of myself… I went out to the Bay Area for May Site Visit. I met a lot of cool people, got to know…

Less Money…More Problems

I don’t think I ever really understood how much it would cost to move across the country. I’ve moved from one country to another; I’ve moved from one state to another. So how is it that I didn’t realize the costs from moving from VA to CA would be so vast? I guess maybe I…

Whoosh!

London was fun. The month went by extremely fast, and I spent way more money than I intended to. It felt great to have a month with the boyfriend without having to worry about tests and interviews and everything. But I’m back. And so is reality. We got a pretty long e-mail blast about all…

London Calling

Turns out my worry over the CBEST writing was unwarranted; I passed with flying colors. Now, my CBEST and CSET are all done, so I have no more standardized tests until the Teaching Foundations Exam at the end of institute! OH! I also got my tentative district placement last week too. I’ll be teaching in…

CSETs=Conquered!

WHOOOOOOOOO!  I passed the math CSETs! The month leading up to the test was super hectic (finals, Christmas, etc.), but I really buckled down the last week before the exam.  I was still pretty freaked out once I actually got to California, but meeting some current corps members and some of the other incoming corps…

Ups and Downs

This week was my last week teaching at UVA. I only had one class to teach, too. They were my best class all year, and I was excited for it. But wow…things didn’t turn out how I planned. When I walked into the room, a student immediately started arguing with me about his grade in…

C’mon Thanksgiving!

Wow, I’m exhausted…and I’m not even in the corps yet! I’ve been a TA for two years now. When I was at Edinburgh, I TA’ed for an Econometrics course, which was very much hands on (using computers, helping students write out pages and pages of code). This year, at UVA, I’ve been given much more…

Did This Really Just Happen?!

I feel like this week has been an absolute whirlwind. I had such anxiety waiting for the results of my TFA final interview; I barely slept for about 3 or 4 days leading up to the grand reveal! I screamed so loud when I got my acceptance, my neighbor knocked to make sure I was…
